HIV Testing

HIV-1 EIA TEST $59
HIV-2 EIA Test $115
HIV-1 & HIV-2 EIA $145 (Savings $29)

Known as: (human immunodeficiency virus, HIV-1 antibodies, enzyme immunoassay, ELISA, HIV-2 Antibodies)

Description: HIV-1 antibodies by EIA with Western blot confirmation, at no additional charge, if the HIV-1 EIA results are repeatedly positive. The HIV EIA test is one of the most popular tests in the United States for HIV. Antibodies for HIV can appear as early as a few weeks after being infected with the HIV virus. The bulk of the population would demonstrate HIV-1 antibodies after 3 months from a potential contact or exposure. In rare circumstances, it could take past 6 months to be detectible for HIV-1. HIV-2 antibodies may take more than 6 months to be detectible. Turnaround time is typically 1 business day for the HIV-1 and 1-3 business days for HIV-2.
Early detection is important so that treatment may begin as soon as possible and assist with delaying the onset of serious complications. In addition, knowing your status will enable you to take the necessary steps in preventing the transmission of HIV to others.

Requirements: This is a blood test. No special requirements for testing.

HIV-1 PCR TEST with HIV-1 EIA $239
REPEAT HIV-1 PCR TEST $199 (Savings $40)

Known as: (human immunodeficiency virus, HIV, Proviral, DNA, PCR amplification)

Description: The HIV-1 DNA by PCR test does not look for the antibodies for HIV but instead looks directly for the proviral DNA. The complex HIV-1 PCR test is 99% accurate at 28 days or more from a suspected contact or exposure. Some people may be detectable earlier. The HIV-1 DNA by PCR test has been an industry standard test in high risk professions for many years. This test may detect the presence of HIV before seroconversion. Turnaround time is typically 2-5 business days for the HIV-1 PCR. The HIV-1 EIA test can be performed at the same time or saved for later use up to six months after initial purchase of an HIV-1 PCR.

Early detection is important so that treatment may begin as soon as possible and assist with delaying the onset of serious complications. In addition, knowing your status will enable you to take the necessary steps in preventing the transmission of HIV to others.

Requirements: This is a blood test. No special requirements for testing.

HIV-1 WESTERN BLOT $99

Known As: HIV-1 Antibody Confirmation, Western Blot

Description: Typically, the Western Blot HIV-1 test is used as a confirmatory test after an HIV-1 EIA test has a positive result. The Western BLOT HIV-1 test looks for many different types of HIV antigen groups which are represented as “bands” in the result. To have a positive HIV-1 Western Blot result, specific bands must be present. Bands can be listed as present but may not be the ones listed as fitting the “positive results” criteria. It is not recommended to use the Western Blot test as an initial screening test because some individuals may be HIV-1 negative but show the presence of bands that do not fit the “positive results” criteria. Turnaround time is typically 1-3 business days.

Early detection is important so that treatment may begin as soon as possible and assist with delaying the onset of serious complications. In addition, knowing your status will enable you to take the necessary steps in preventing the transmission of HIV to others.

Requirements: This is a blood test. No special requirements for testing.

What is HIV/AIDS?

HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. In most cases, people infected with HIV will develop AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). HIV destroys "helper cells" that are critical in the normal functioning of the human immune system. With the destruction of "helper cells", there is an increase for opportunistic infections. There are two types of HIV, HIV-1 and HIV-2. While HIV-1 is commonly tested for in the United States, HIV-2 is predominantly found in Africa and is still not recommended as a routine test. read more...
